National Land Cover and Classification Systems

Training on national land cover classification systems (LCCS) towards the integration of forest and other land use mapping activities. 

From 9th to 13th of March, a training session was held in Paramaribo, Suriname. Participants of each orest services involved in the project were welcomed at the Stichting voor Bosbeheer en Bostoezich (SBB) venue. This training, on the use of the Forest and Agriculture Organization (FAO) new version of Land Cover Classification Systems (LCCSv3) was led by two experts from FAO.

The aim of the training, based on a practical approach, was to work on the harmonization of the legends and classification systems at a national scale, and to discuss the scheme of a classification model that could be used for regional mapping activities. A field trip was organized with all participants.
